We took the London Underground from Heathrow Airport to our hotel, near Gloucester Road Tube station.
Leaving from: Heathrow Airport, Terminals 1-3 Going to: Gloucester Road
Tips: If you arrive in London early in the day, it may be worth it to get a Day Travelcard. We arrived on a Saturday, so we opted for the off-peak (for weekends, or after 9:30am weekdays) One Day Travelcard for unlimited travel. Make sure your ticket covers all zones. Heathrow Airport in located in Zone 6 and central London is mostly in Zones 1-2.
Depending on how you go, there are two ways to exit Heathrow Airport via the Tube:
1 - The Heathrow Express will take you directly to Picadilly Circus Tube stop in about 15 minutes. There is a different (and more expensive) fare for this ride.
2 - Take the local train line (Picadilly line) into Central London. This is the inexpensive way to get into London, and obviously takes longer (about an hour). I used this method to get to our hotel.
Also, it's best to check the Underground's weekend service advisories online before arriving. Two of the main Underground lines were suspended the weekend I was there.
Tube: Southwark (Jubilee Line) and Blackfriars (District and Circle Lines)
Tips:
The weekends are pretty crowded at the museum. If you are attending solely for this exhibit, it’s best to get to the museum when it opens or visit on a weekday. Timed tickets are required for levels 3-5. Bags are not allowed on the exhibit, but you can check your belongs in the cloakroom on level 1 for free.
The famous market in Notting Hill. It’s the perfect place to shop for Antiques. One section of the sells foodstuffs, including a vendor selling Ghanian food that I didn’t get to try. Near Ladbroke Grove, the market spreads out along the side streets selling lots of vintage clothing and accessories.
At 135 metres above London, the London Eye is the world’s tallest observation wheel, with 40km panoramic views on a clear day. The gradual 30 minute flight offers stunning views of London and its famous landmarks in a fully air conditioned capsule with bench seating.

Authentic Thai Restaurant near Waterloo Station. Prices are pretty affordable. There is another branch located in Kennington. We went for dinner but the Lunch set is an incredible deal.

Three Palace Pass
The Tower of London has been an integral part of British royal history for nearly 1000 years. Only at the Tower can you marvel at the breathtaking Crown Jewels, stand on the execution site of three English queens and hear the myths and legends that make a visit to the Tower ‘a day out to die for’.
In addition to the Tower of London, the pass allows you to visit Kensington Palace, a royal residence since 1689 and home of the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection. Also visit Hampton Court Palace with its stunning State Apartments and 60 acres of spectacular riverside gardens including the world famous Maze.
A busy marketplace selling food, clothes, accessories. The newer section is much more modern, home to high-end stores and restaurants. The older market caters more to food stalls, clothing and other items.
Old Spitalfields Market
Spitalfields
London,
E1 6BG
After walking around Spitalfields Market, we stopped in at the Square Pie Company for lunch. We ordered one Steak & Guiness pie to split between 2 people. Pies can be bought separately, or as a meal with mashed potatoes and peas (regular or mushed).
South East corner of Old Spitalfields Market. Nearest Tube stop: Liverpool Street (Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City, Northern lines); Aldgate East (District line)
Tips:
If no seats are available, you can take it outside to eat, or stand around in nearby areas inside the Market.
Very trendy area of London. It’s similar to the East Village in New York during the 80s/early 90s. Lots of goth, punk, retro finds. It reminds me of vintage flea markets.
There’s plenty of international food stands at the Lock Market to grab a bite.

We walked along the grounds outside the Abbey, but did not pay the admission to go inside (we were also on a tight schedule and did not want to waste time).
It is both restaurant and department store. Lots of fine teas, biscuits and other delicious goodies. Afternoon Tea (with our without champagne) is available upstairs on the 4th floor in the St James’s Restaurant.
Named after Britain’s victorious Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, which secured Britain from any type of further invasion from France. The 18ft statue atop an extremely tall column is of Admiral Horatio Nelson, the commanding officer of the great Battle of Trafalgar. This impressive square is a great place to relax, enjoy the landscape and views, and feed some pigeons. Bordering the square are sites The National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.

The total price (per person) of your trip is an approximate value. Our members enter prices in ranges (ie. 10 - 20 USD per entree at a restaurant). Then, depending on the travel style you have selected for yourself, we estimate how much we think you would spend (ie. If your travel style is "inexpensive," you would probably end up spending $10 at the mentioned restaurant). It's all hokey science, but if you are like us and travel on a budget, knowing approximately how much you will spend on a trip is of utmost importance.
