Here are some of best restaurants that I have found in New York City. Some of them are classic favorites while others are a bit off the beaten track. Most are relatively inexpensive eats and YUMMY!

The steak here is to die for. Peter Luger Steak House has been serving the finest USDA Prime steaks since 1887. The selection process is crucial and therefore is done only by members of the family who visit the wholesale markets on a daily basis. It begins with fresh sides of beef that usually come from the Midwest. The section of beef used is called the short loin. Only those cattle graded PRIME by the United States Agriculture Department are even considered. It is then important to examine the color, fat conformation and bones. -Peter Lugar’s

Excellent Vietnamese food, located in Chinatown. What I like most about TS is their spring roll is wrapped in rice paper, not the wonton wraps you find 99% of VN places. Using rice paper makes the roll much more crisp and lighter. The service is decent, the place is relatively clean and the owner very nice.

Korean food in Koreatown – This place is somewhat noisy from the crown and atmosphere but it’s a great place to have a fun time and bring large groups of friends. The food here is fantastic, I am always full at the end of the meal, especially because of the numerous side dishes. Generosity is key here – a meal here will never leave you hungry.

Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

A.O.C. opened in early 2003 and is an authentic French Bistro serving classic French food. The chef & owner was the chef at Les Deux Gamins for 5 years. His partner is the owner of a wholesale seafood company which services the restaurant. Thus, amazingly fresh and delicious seafood is offered daily. There is a beautiful outdoor garden and patio in the back which is opened during the warmer weather.

“Best Pizza in NYC” is a widely contested topic. But no one can deny that Grimaldi’s coal oven pizza is damn good (if not THE best). Located in Brooklyn, right under the Brooklyn Bridge adds to the aura of NYC establishment. The menu can’t get much simpler either: tomato pizza or white pizza, and your choice of toppings. I like mine with a coke.

The line at Grimaldi’s is often down the block. They don’t take reservations so the best suggestion is to get their early or go at off-times (lunch-time is usually not bad). If you just can’t wait, you can always order a pie to-go and walk a block to the water where there is a pier and plenty of seats.

Katz’s Deli is a wonderful New York restaurant that dates back to 1888. The walls are covered with photos of the owner and the various celebrities that have dined here. It is definitely a must eat in New York for lunch. But make sure you are hungry ‘cuz their pastrami on rye is HUGE! Katz is also famous as being the location for “that” scene from ‘When Harry Met Sally’, and has also been used as a location for numerous other films.

Chocolate Shop – Jacques Torres Chocolate in Brooklyn
Jacques is very proud of our first factory. He designed and built it himself (with a little help from some friends). At this original location, he has set new standards for sanitation that exceed all existing guidelines every step of the way. The factory is visible through large plate glass windows from inside the store and from the street level. Store visitors may often see candy being made. We are happy to explain our state-of-the-art equipment and unparalleled sanitation guidelines.

How do we figure?
The total price (per person) of your trip is an approximate value. Our members enter prices in ranges (ie. 10 - 20 USD per entree at a restaurant). Then, depending on the travel style you have selected for yourself, we estimate how much we think you would spend (ie. If your travel style is "inexpensive," you would probably end up spending $10 at the mentioned restaurant). It's all hokey science, but if you are like us and travel on a budget, knowing approximately how much you will spend on a trip is of utmost importance.
