Great staff, relatively cheap drinks, and tons of pool tables makes this place a fun spot for Cal students and locals alike. The jukebox is always bumpin with hot tunes, even if the volume is too high for conversation.
The pool tables and equipment are very well kept, and the bartenders really know how to mix drinks well. Out door smoking patio with tables and chairs, indoor booth and table seating areas along with 21 pool tables. Try out the dart board, shuffleboard, pinball machines, arcades and drinks!

• Seriously some of the best tasting mixed drinks in the city. Bartenders here know what they are doing. The place can get very crowded on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and the line at the bar can get cumbersome during these hours.

Truly bonafide pool hall and one of the best and most competitive in the East Bay. USPPA tournaments are held here weekly. I would guess around 18-20 tables with a couple snooker tables. If you’re looking for a bit of action, you should be able to find some here on the right night. Full bar with some small round tables to socialize at. Food can be purchased from their kitchen or from the large food court “Public Market” that is located right next door.
I once saw Jeanette “Black Widow” Lee play in a fairly large tournment at the Broken Rack a long time ago.

I-80 going East. Exit Powell Street/Emeryville. Go east after you exit towards the movie theatres. Make a left turn when you see the Shell Gas Station. Drive a couple blocks and you will see the large UA Theatre. Park in the lot and go towards the “Public Market” food court area. The Broken Rack is right next door to the Public Market.

More of a bar then a bonafide pool hall. Two stories with two pool tables downstairs and three upstairs. The upstairs is a bit nicer for billiards and socializing because there is more space and a balcony. The downstairs has an outdoor patio and a good-sized walk-up bar. Definitely a place for socializing and very casual games of pool. Great place to visit to hangout in a pleasant, locals atmosphere, do not expect to find any serious pool playing here.

Been here at least a dozen times over the years. The pool hall is small and fairly trendy and definitely an unorthodox setup with some bench seating alongside the pool tables.. There is a full bar and maybe 6-10 tables at most (not exactly sure). Patrons here tend to be groups of friends and casual players, but I have heard of some good players that frequent this joint. For some reason every time I come here I seem to be ordering a pitcher of beer.

Last time I checked (which was probably around 2004), this was THE pool hall to go to in San Francisco for competitive play, local and USPPA tournaments, as well as money games.
The pool hall itself is very crowded with individual table space held to a minimum. I would guess around 20 pool tables reside here along with a full bar (I do not know if there is a kitched). The tables in the back are normally give out to casual players and groups of friends… the tables in the front are normally where the action is.

It was well known to local players that the first three tables are the best up-kept and tend to have the newest felt. Be warned that these first three tables are known to run faster and have slightly tighter pockets than the rest of the parlor.

This pool hall has been around for ages, and rightfully so. It’s one of those classic parlors that you cannot forget. There is a long stairwell that serves as the entrance. When you reach the top of the stairwell there is a large oval shaped full bar in the middle of the room with at least 20 pool tables all around. The ceiling is low and carpeted red which matches the carpet on the floor. The tables are well kept and have those hanging lights with the gold tassles lining the rim. The room is kept dark. If I remember correctly the pool felt is also red in color.
The atmosphere is really for locals and serious pool fanatics. Honestly, I sometimes feel awkward walking in here, it seems like everyone is looking for money games and fresh meat to pick on. I do not know if there are touraments and who frequents here at night, but I do know that this place has some serious players. If you’re looking for money games, they will find you… and if you’re not looking for money games, they’ll find you anyways.

I’ve only been to this place a couple times, but I can already tell this is a pool hall for both serious players and casual players alike. Two floors accomodate a good number of pool tables, maybe 15+ (can’t remember how many, but it was plenty). USPPA and local tournaments held here weekly. Definitely the place for shooter in San Rafael area.

Fantastic pool hall and a must visit if you are a pool player in the south bay area. Patrons enjoy a whopping 30 pool tables, 7 TVs, 4 video poker games, 7 arcade games, kitchen and a jukebox. I’ve only been here a couple times but this is one of the nicest pool halls I have ever visited. Casual players and serious players can both be found here. I do not know if there are tournaments, but there should be. Equipment, tables, balls and service is all exceptional, I give it two thumbs up for sure.

Dropped by here a few times when I used to work in San Mateo. Nice pool hall overall, kind-of-a modern setup with separated areas. Good sized pool hall, but it really lacks that classic pool hall parlor feeling. I probably would not go here too often, kinda boring.

Been here a couple times, definitely an old fashioned locals style pool hall. There is a section of a wall when you enter, dedicated to photos of the regulars who have frequented there. Full bar and around a dozen tables or so. I walked in there one time and it seemed like everyone else in the parlor knew eachother but me.

This is Hard Times Billiards and that is enough said. It was once voted the best billiards room in America. Anything and everyhing in the culture of serious billiards is found here, from tournaments to big money hustling. 38 Tables, 21,000 Sq. Ft. established in 1988. The picture says it all.

Good atmosphere and kick ass burgers. Tables are only 10 bucks an hour per table so its cheap if you go in groups, the equipment is also excellent with well-kept tables, decent house cues and quality pool balls. Plus its one of the only 18 and over billiards place in LA.

Titan Billiards offers 12 Gold Crown tables, including: Free Billiards Tuesdays. I played in a national college pool tournament here and had a blast. Tables and equipment are well kept for a college pool hall. The felt was the slow kind when I was there.

My favorite pool hall in the San Diego area. Good sized room with 20 tables. There is a very small upstairs with four tables. Booth seating lines one of the walls for people just chilling or dining. Tables and equipment are kept in tip-top shape. Serious players can be found here all the time, including the house pro. I’ve played in a number of weekly tournaments they have here, lots of fun and people are generally very nice. Service is excellent. From the kitchen, I always ordered the spaghetti and garlic bread with a hot chocolate. I have a lot of fond memories here, highly recommended!

Large and modern looking pool hall. The entrance of the building has large glass-windows so everyone from the street can look inside. Atmosphere is appeals to the younger hip, beach-town crowd of San Diego. Honestly, I think this is more of a social/drinking pool hall than a serious pool hall. Nevertheless, Society Billiards is fairly well known, they have tournaments here, but I have yet to see any regulars here who are real pool hall junkies.

B Street Billiards is located in downtown San Mateo one block from the new Cal Train station.

CLOSED DOWN – ouch… this place was my first and favorite pool hall. There used to be twenty tables here, a half bar and a dozen arcade games and pinball machines. The place was never that welcoming and it was often frequented by not the most desirable patrons. Currently, the location is a karate dojo.

REMODELED in 2002 – right after I graduated they totally screwed up the Game Room… turning half of it into Panda Express Fast Food. There used to be six well-kept pool tables, with excellent equipment, campus tournaments and regular patrons, both students and non-students would frequent here. There also used to be a large screen television, two ping-pong tables and a good sized arcade room.
Now it’s almost all fast food tables, with two beaten up pool tables and a couple arcade machines… whoop dee doo… glad I graduated when I did.

CLOSED DOWN – another painful one… over 50 pool tables, 3 snooker tables, 3 ping-pong tables, shuffle board, arcade games, pinball machines, a full kitchen, full bar and just an enormous entertainment center. It was safe, clean, nice, social and fun to go here. Tournaments were held here almost daily. Well known local pool sharks could be found here almost anytime. It was an awesome joint, and for some reason now it’s gone.

CLOSED DOWN – now this place was cool. UC Berkeley used to have a large gaming area with a dozen pool tables, a good sized bowling alley, pinball machines, ping-pong tables and a HUGE video gaming area. I remember large crowds gathering around popular games like Street Fighter II, there would seriously be a line of over 15 quarters waiting to get a turn. Now UCB has the BearsLair located in some small room in the student center… it’s weak and not even worth visiting.

CLOSED DOWN – don’t remember anything notable about this place. I do know good players used to frequent here regularly though.
