I’ve never been there but i’ve read some terrible reviews about the white house of NY. From what i understand its basically 30 beds to a room boxed in a tiny alcove giving the illusion of privacy but still with the noise of 30 other people.
It doesn’t compare to a hotel, but it’s far superior to a dorm style hostel and it does provide more privacy than a hostel with a similar price and experience.

The Madison Hotel is clean and pleasant. Centrally located, wildly affordable for N.Y.. Stayed there in August for the second time and would recommend it to anyone. Not the Ritz Carlton, but comfortable.
