If you like following structured tours (and like to pay much more), book those through the Sheraton concierge or any of the prolific travel agencies in town. Otherwise, book a taxi driver for a day (through the Sheraton concierge). This turned out to be one of the best deals of our entire trip (see cost details), and our taxi driver (Mr. Yu) was basically like a tour guide, with a local flair. He only spoke Mandarin though, so if you (and the rest of your party) don’t speak Mandarin, you lose out on that feature. Also, Mr. Yu went above and beyond his duties and escorted us to all the attraction ticket booths, as well as met us at the attraction exits, to make our day most efficient.

The way it works is your taxi driver brings you wherever you want to go (in town). He/she basically takes you door-to-door and waits for you to return. (We were especially lucky, because our driver lent us a spare mobile phone, just in case we couldn’t find him.) Consider taking your driver’s advice on where to go (and what time of the day). BTW, you don’t pay the driver until the end of the day, so don’t worry about getting stranded.
