In the summer the line is outrageous. Since 9/11 a giant security pavilion was put in place and the wait to get to the island can be 3 hours. They are very serious about the security. Also the food pavilion on the island is really bad, its cafeteria food run by slow malcontent teens. That line can be an hour as well and the food is total garbage. Also note that the actual statue is only open at limited times. Elis island is a great museum and people love it- its really very interesting and worth the trip.
Posted 737 days ago.I recommend if you want to see elis island, plan at least a day for this trip and pack your own lunch. It maybe easier to come from the jersey side but I am not sure. Otherwise if you just want to see the statue of liberty- take the staten island ferry, its comes very close to it and the ferry is free.
